To keep the battery level healthy and up to scratch the smoke detector must be tested monthly. This is not only for fire safety but at the same time to guarantee the continous operation of the smoke detector.

If the smoke detector beeps every 45 seconds, this can mean two things:

1. The battery is really empty (in principal only after approx. 4 - 5 years)

2. The smoke detector has not been tested sufficiently, which has caused a 'lazy' battery. You can resolve this by performing the action below.

If the smoke detector does indeed indicate that the battery is empty, you can try to 'reset' it by holding the test button for about 3 - 4 minutes. We recommend that you cover the speaker of the smoke detector during these minutes to limit the noise and, if possible, to protect your ears. After this operation, the battery has sufficient voltage to work again. As a precautionary measure, test the smoke detector on a weekly basus and gradually reduce it to the monthly test.
